Central Health launched National Falls Prevention Month

November 2nd, 2017

This morning Central Health launched National Falls Prevention month . The event coincided with the first day of the seasonal influenza mass immunization clinics in Lewisporte. We were able to share “falls prevention” messages with the primarily senior age population present for the clinics. The provincial injury prevention association had offered funds towards refreshments for the gathering however we opted to use the funds towards the purchase of  falls prevention items that could be used by those attending our session. Those items included a variety of mini flashlights to guide their walk from the car to the door etc.  at night; reflective bands to increase visibility  when walking at night and items to wrap long cords in their home to decrease potential trip and falls . Our presentation also covered grip devices for winter walking that can be applied to the outer layer of a boot, pros and cons of these items were included in the demonstration.

We reached approximately 50 individuals with our message and the giveaway items were quickly taken.

Thanks to Mayor Clarke and Kelly Muggridge for attending and signing the proclamation (copy attached) .
