Older Adult Physical Activity Toolkit

April 18th, 2018

To help Newfoundlanders and Labradorians sit less and move more, the Government of Newfoundland & Labrador and ParticipACTION have partnered up, with the support of Recreation NL, to develop educational resources that encourage and motivate people to be more physically active throughout their day.

Having one of the highest rate of physical inactivity and obesity in the country, there is a need to continue to collaborate and work together to promote the positive effects that physical activity has on a person’s overall health and well-being.

Attached is an Older Adult Physical Activity Toolkit that your community, or organization can use to spread the word about the importance of physical activity to older adults..

I encourage you to:
- Post the toolkit on your website and share through social media.
- Share articles about physical activity and chronic diseases such as arthritis, diabetes or heart disease throughout your social networks and within newsletters.
- Print copies of the movement log for individuals to use in your facility or at various programs.
- Distribute the toolkits or one pagers found within the toolkit at a provincial conference or regional workshop where older adults may be gathering.
- Use the 8-week walking program to get yourself, your friends and family more active.
