St John’s Councillor Dave Lane says the City’s Master Bike Plan has reached an important milestone – Council has approved hiring a consultant to engage the residents.

Lane says the City needs to know what next steps to take to improve cycling so Trace Planning and Design will draw up a comprehensive Bicycle Strategy and Master Plan.

The process will cost just over $120,000, but Lane says $90,000 for cycling was left on the table by the previous council and it will be utilized for the project.

Lane says the company will have unique and standard ways to connect with residents who support more bike networks and people who are against it. He says Trace Planning will use information already gathered by the City and collect new data that will inform a comprehensive strategy.
