  • NEW More Heat Warnings Across Island Region, Record Temps Set For Regatta

Expect blazing sunshine over the next few days with heat warnings all over the place including metro where thousands will gather tomorrow for the 200th Royal St. John’s Regatta.

Brian Walsh, meteorologist with PAL Airlines and Aerospace, says it will be hovering around record temperatures for Regatta Day.

The record is 28.3, and the forecast calls for a high of 28. Winds will be light all day from the west with the humidex into the thirties.

The heat warning stretches across most of the island and while it will also be warm on the south coast, the humidity there will be less of a factor.

This could be one of the easiest decisions ever for the Regatta Committee. They’re expected to make the call at about 5:30 in the morning. VOCM will go live whenever the committee emerges from their meeting.

The first race goes at 7:00, and we will have live stroke-by-stroke coverage of the races including the championship rows at 6:30 and 7:00.
