MEDIA RELEASE SafetyNL hosts ‘The New Marijuana Legislation: Weeding Out our Safety Concerns’ Mount Pearl, NL (Tuesday, September 4th, 2018) - SafetyNL will be hosting a discussion forum event entitled ‘The New Marijuana Legislation: Weeding Out our Safety Concerns’ on Thursday, September 13th, 2018 from 7-9pm. The event will take place in Room 1M102 in the Medical Education Centre at Memorial University.

This summer, SafetyNL hosted a Master of Public Health student from Memorial University whose project was to compile a report detailing how the upcoming cannabis legalization will affect safety at home, at work, and on the road in this province. To share these findings, SafetyNL is hosting a discussion forum event about cannabis and safety.

The goal of this forum is to create a space for individuals to discuss and learn about the health and safety concerns associated with cannabis. The event will begin with a presentation summarizing the findings of the report produced by SafetyNL’s student, followed by a panel discussion with representatives from various stakeholder groups, such as the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Workplace NL, etc. The event will be open to the general public and admission is free. SafetyNL is requesting that those interested in attending complete the event registration form. Anyone with an interest in cannabis and how it may affect safety in this province is encouraged to attend.

SafetyNL is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting health and safety at home, at work, and on the road in Newfoundland and Labrador. In addition to offering comprehensive driver and motorcycling training programs as well as occupational health and safety courses, SafetyNL is committed to its community safety programming and is a leader in many successful community programs and coalitions.
