Eastern Health Prepares For Cannabis Legalization

October 1st, 2018

Eastern Health is preparing for an increase in cannabis usage and health-related issues following legalization in a couple of weeks.

The largest health board in the province says it has had patients, residents and clients taking both medical cannabis and recreational cannabis for many years.

With the appropriate policies and education in place, Eastern Health says it’s well-equipped to respond to any increase in the use of cannabis. They’re currently formalizing a policy regarding medical cannabis which outlines regulations/direction from the federal government to health professionals.

They’re revising the “Impairment in the Workplace Policy” to recognize an employer’s obligation to explore options to accommodate those staff members who have a medical condition or disability causing impairment.

The employer is offering its workforce a number of educational/training webinars in the coming weeks on safety, drug-to-drug interactions and impairment.
