Poll Shows Employers, Employees Unprepared For Cannabis At Work.

October 12th, 2018

A new survey shows a disconnect between employers and employees when it comes to expectations surrounding recreational cannabis use and the workplace.
The Ipsos poll, commissioned by ADP Canada asked if the Canadian workplace is ready for recreational cannabis.

The recreational use of cannabis will be legal across Canada in less than a week.

The poll shows that of 1,000 employed Canadians surveyed, 6 per cent believe their organizations will allow the use of cannabis for recreational purposes during work hours, with managers more likely (10%) to believe that than employees (2%)

14 per cent of managers say it’s somewhat likely that they will consume cannabis during work hours, twice as many as non-managers (7%)

A large portion of both managers and non-managers agree that there will be an increase in health and safety incidents and absenteeism due to cannabis use.

21 per cent of respondents in Atlantic Canada say their workplace has not indicated one way or another whether they will be allowed to use recreational cannabis during or before work hours.

The survey of 1,000 working Canadians was conducted between September 17th and 21st. The poll is accurate to within plus or minus 3.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20 and included 500 managers and 500 non-managers over the age of 18.
